The opening weeks of Le Bistro were quite a chaotic time of joyous reconnection of previous clientele and the return of quality and authentic French ambience and cuisine. The restaurant is an intimate storefront establishment, with an open kitchen and a modern decor that is reminiscent of family eateries in the French countryside. After the closing of Cafe Provençal six years ago, there was a major void created in the inland valley where once amazing and truly French food and hospitality were proffered by a family of French restaurateurs, who had owned a succession of fine dining establishments for decades. Le Bistro is the latest version of these restaurants. The menu is a little smaller than those that were found at Cafe Provençal, The Blackboard, or La Cheminée, but retains the freshness, quality, and superb preparation that longtime patrons have come to expect. It is a wonderful thing to once again have a local place to enjoy truly fine food, and to practice speaking French. Check out this new incarnation, and yes, imagine you are in France--make a reservation, and enjoy a delicious meal!

Just had lunch there with a French friend of mine. The service is on the slow side but, frankly, that is part of the French experience. The menu actually lets you know that every dish is carefully prepared... and you can see that for yourself once it finally makes its way to your table. My friend and I both thought the food was fresh and seasoned perfectly. She had a ham and cheese crepe and I got the trout special, which came with a delicious buttery sauce and vegetables. We shared a Baked Alaska for dessert. It is a somewhat massive but delicately flavored cake filled with vanilla ice cream and topped with meringue. It was flambeed (with Grand Marnier I believe) right before being served, hence the wonderful flavor. It's so nice to have an authentic French restaurant in the area, I will definitely go back there. Vive Le Bistro!

We walked in just in time to get a seat before the after noon rush! The staff consisted of two cooks and one waitress. My date and i both ordered off the daily menu, steak and pot roast respectively. Good portions, great price! The sauce on my steak a bit salty but altogether a delicious and savory dish. For dessert we ordered the souffle of course, which was... Ok. I've never had one before, so i didn't know what to expect, but it was not something I'd wait twenty minutes for again. The saving grace was the baked Alaska! Ice cream on a crispy bread bottom covered in flaming whipped egg whites, with a hint of alcohol from the shot poured on top to light the egg white, this hard to find dessert was exquisite! The supreme end to a great meal, oh and before i forget, order a caramel latte to go with your dessert, you won't regret it!

My wife and I have been regular customers at Le Bistro for 18 months or so and feel it's time to provide our opinions --- We had known the LaMonica's in previous lives and were excited to have them open a bistro style restaurant in Upland.

The food is uniformly good and representative of "home style" cooking from France. In all honesty I can't say that we've ever had a meal which didn't live up to our expectations. But, be aware that classic French dishes (like coq au vin and coquille saint jacques) aren't the only offerings. Some of the best osso buco, best pork shank, and best beef short ribs, I've ever had have been at Le Bistro.

The location of this small (40 or so seat) restaurant is not ideal and it has no visibility from main streets like Foothill Bpulevard and Euclid Street, but it's worth a little effort to enjoy not only some excellent cooking, but also wonderful hospitality.
